Getting started with a design system can be an exciting but daunting experience for both designers and developers. Here are some tips for each group to help get up and running quickly and easily.

For Designers:

  • Familiarise yourself with the design system's documentation, which should include information on typography, colour palettes, icons, and UI components

  • Start by using the design system's pre-made UI components and guidelines to ensure consistency in your designs

  • Use the design system's colour palette and typography tokens to create a visual language in your designs.

  • If you're having trouble with a particular component or design element, consult the design system's documentation or reach out to the gov.ie DS team for assistance.

For developers:

  • Review the design system's documentation, including the design system's architecture, code style guide, and API documentation.
